Sophie Daneman studied at the Guildhall School of Music with Johanna Peters.
She has since had an international career as a soprano spanning over 30 years in a wide range of repertoire and has sung in many of the world’s most prestigious opera houses and recital halls and has recorded an extensive discography. In recent years, alongside her singing work, Sophie has also developed a career as a stage director.

Directing credits include Rameau, Maitre a Danser with Les Arts Florissants for the Theatre de Caen, BAM Brooklyn, The Bolshoi Moscow and Seoul Arts Centre; Monteverdi’s Orfeo for Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland, Acis and Galatea for the Yong Siew Toh conservatoire, Singapore and the Peninsula Summer Music Festival, Melbourne. For the Tete-a Tete festival; Fossils, Lies and Poison (2022) Looking Inward (2023) Rendezvous with Revenge (2024) and Peeled Back (2025)
Last year she co-created and directed Our Mother, a re-imagining of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at Stone Nest London. She has staged six editions of Les Arts Florissants’ Jardin des Voix Academy, the most recent being Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera and Handel’s Partenope which toured extensively in Europe and North America. Future engagements include a revival of a cabaret she co-created and directed around the songs of Julie Andrews with Lea Desandre at the Opera Comique and a staging of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for a tour in Asia with Les Arts Florissants.
