Alfons Flores began to work as a set designer in 1978 at the group GAT, from L’Hospitalet del Llobregat (Barcelona), of which he was one of the founders.

 

Career Highlights

His work includes sets for theatre and opera, urban set design and large-scale events, working with such directors as Calixto Bieito, Joan Lluís, Carlos Wagner, Joan Anton Rechi, Guy Joosten, Àlex Ollé and Carlus Padrissa (Fura dels Baus). His opera designs have been seen at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real, ENO, ROH, Teatro alla Scala, Komische Oper Berlin, La Monnaie, Sydney Opera House, Theater Basel, Opéra de Lyon, Oper Frankfurt, Stadtsoper Stuttgart, DNO, Opéra de Paris, and include Carmen, Un ballo in maschera, Don Giovanni, Die Fledermaus, Manon, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Wozzeck, La fanciulla del West, Le Grand macabre, Mahagonny, Adriana Lecouvreur, Król Roger, Quarttet, Tristan und Isolde, Oedipe, Le duc d’Albe, Erwartung/Il prigioniero, Madama Butterfly, Der fliegende Holländer, Pelléas et Mélisande L’elisir d’amore, Il trovatore, Don Carlo, Norma, La bohème, Alceste, Turandot and Manon Lescaut. He has received many awards for his work and was nominated for Best Stage Designer at the 2017 International Opera Awards.
